The Invention of Lying
January 29th, 2010 by Amy received No Comments »We’ve all wondered what it would be like if we could do something to completely change our circumstances for the better wether it be going back in time to relive things or winning the lottery. Well this is such a story.
Mark (Ricky Cervais) lives in a world where nobody has ever told a lie. Now when I saw the previews, I thought about the concept just superficially. Like in conversation. Always being honest. However, I didn’t realize all that it would involve exactly. And that’s where the humor came in (well it’s all over but bare with me). When you can’t tell a lie, there is a lot that’s cut out. No fiction, so no movies that are made up. Just basically history documentaries and stuff. Retirement homes are not called “Shady Pines” or anything of the sort. And people just speak their minds. When nobody can lie then everbody just takes things at face value. But what if you COULD lie?
Oh, how wonderful your life would be. You could just make stuff up and people would blindly hang on every word you say. It would be amazing and, most of all, empowering. You’d be the next Pope lol.
Of course, there is always consequences and the grass isn’t always greener on the other side. And what happens when you run out of stuff to make up and people are badgering you for more? Crowds are following you everywhere and they want details? Well find out and watch The Invention of Lying.
I give this movie 5 ghost peppers.
