Movie Review – Paranormal Activity!

October 25th, 2009 by Amy received No Comments »

Well, for those of who loved  The Blair Witch Project a new movie from the victims point of view has emerged. Paranormal Activity is a film driven from the point of view of a young gentlemen and his video camera.

Micah (pronounced Mee-Ka, strange) is documenting the ghostly activity that seems to be centered around his girlfriend, Katie by using his personal video camera. Both seem fairly successful, living in San Diego, Ca. It’s always nice to see bad things happen to people living more upscale then you, but when something is strange and unknown it just leave you nail biting, which I did in the theatre.

Demons and ghosts have always personally scared me, but lets face it; movies always “hollywood it up” by making it over the top. However, this movie made it simple and realistic. Things happen how you would think they should happen, until the end of course when it gives you something you’d never expect. To say the least, this movie scared the sh*t out of me!!! I would definitely recommend seeing this movie, then maybe watch something funny to get your mind off of the task of wrapping your brain around “Paranormal Activity.”

Movie Review of the Week – Surveillance

August 21st, 2009 by Amy received No Comments »

I just ordered this movie on a whim, On Demand. I had heard good things about it but was a bit hesitant. After all it was a Jennifer Lynch film, the daughter of the famous David Lynch. If you’ve ever seen a David Lynch movie (Lost Highway, Twin Peaks Fire Walk With Me) then you’d understand why I thought it may be hard to follow, however it was the opposite.

Surveillance was a truely fucked up movie, and I mean that in a good way. It’s a story of murder and mayhem that could only be caused by a true psychopath. There is no good guys in this movie and the twists and turns will keep you locked on. It was simple, which I liked. The story stood on it’s own. Here’s the general synopsis:

Two FBI agents  enter the police station in a small town. They are there to interview two ladies (a girl, and a woman) who have witnessed a terrible murder. They set up Surveillance to watch the interviews, but the stories lead you to a twist in the ending that is both amazing and bizarre.  Starring Julia Ormond, Bill Pullman, Michael Ironside, and French Stewart among others.

I would definitely suggest this movie to any fan of a true thriller story. It was awesome. And I definitley look forward to more films from Jennifer Lynch.
